The artistry of the craftsmen of Dubai, and the traditional forms of the region's fishing nets, provide inspiration for the geometry of D1's podium canopy. The materials and timber construction are reminiscent of the deep-sea dhow vessels associated with the Gulf region and its waterways. The resultant shade structure, so evocative of the Mashrabiya (Arabian screens), pays authentic homage to local tradition, as the towering form of D1 rises above the life-enhancing shade of the canopy.

Visually stunning and architecturally significant buildings, created from an audacious blending of passion and vision, underpin ENSHAA's reputation for design innovation and creating landmark developments which combine both conceptual brilliance and technical virtuosity.

Now, passion and proficiency are the intertwined attributes that give rise to the ultra-modern structure of D1, in the United Arab Emirates. D1 will enhance the built environment by fusing rich Middle Eastern heritage and culture with today's technology, quality and modernity... a stunning 80 storey residential tower, rising 284 meters on the premier site of the Dubai Creek cultural and artistic precinct.

Originally a small fishing and trading village, Dubai was made up of three distinct areas. Deira was its commercial centre, while Shindagha, on a narrow strip of land separating the sea from the creek, was the main residential district. Deiras souq, lined with typically narrow covered passageways, was the public market: the largest in the region.

Culture Village is set to become the historical hub of Dubai and has been created to celebrate the importance of the Creek in Dubais cultural evolution. Featuring traditional wind towers, cobblestone walkways and souks, as well as galleries and museums, the precinct will showcase the best of the regions artists and designers. Visitors to Culture Village will be able to soak up the vibrant cultural atmosphere while enjoying the sophisticated waterside cafes, restaurants and boutiques.
